Would you stay in a prison while on vacation?

The Het Arrestuis is a luxury hotel located in the Netherlands.  At first glance, everything looks pretty normal...maybe there is a clue, if you noticed the bars on the windows.  Upon entering the hotel, you start to understand the whole picture.  The Het Arrestuis was a functioning jail until 2005.  Fairly soon after the doors of the  jail were shut for good (at least that is what people thought), work began transforming the stark and unhappy space into one of the most interesting hotels I have ever seen.  Now, the building has beautiful modern design mixing perfectly with all of the jail's remaining architectural details.  I love the decision to keep reminders throughout the hotel of what the building's previous life was.  The bars on the windows, the cell doors and even naming the 36 guest rooms "cells" are all cheeky reminders of where you are staying.  The hotel's four suites were also named in honor of the building's history- The Director, The Judge, The Lawyer and The Jailer.  Never fear, this hotel has more than a "yard" to exercise in.  It has all the amenities one would expect in a luxury hotel, including a restaurant, bar, exercise room and sauna.
